Newly discovered lyrics and poems written by Johnny Cash are being reworked into a collection of songs, with a track titled “You Never Knew My Mind” performed by the late Chris Cornell.
The record, titled “Johnny Cash: Forever Words,” is due out April 6, and in addition to the Soundgarden frontman features Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves, Brad Paisley, Alison Kraus, John Mellencamp, Jewel, Elvis Costello, The Jayhawks and more. The announcement of the record is accompanied by the trailer below.
NME reports that Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, who also co-produced “Forever Words,” referred to the album as a “monstrous amassment” of unreleased and undiscovered material.
Cornell died in May of last year due to suicide, and “You Never Knew My Mind” will be his first posthumous release.
